When you compare installers, always ask for the total installed price per kWp, not just the headline system price. A RM20,000 quote for 5kWp (RM4,000/kWp) and a RM24,000 quote for 8kWp (RM3,000/kWp) sound similar in total, but the second is far better value per unit of capacity.

- Inverter β the "brain" that converts DC to AC. Budget 20β25% of system cost for a quality unit (Huawei, Sungrow, SolarEdge).
- Mounting structure and wiring β rails, clamps, cabling, and DC isolators.
- Installation labour by a SEDA-registered installer.
- Solar ATAP / TNB application and meter changes where needed.
- Monitoring β an app so you can see your generation.

Roof type

Panel and inverter brand
Premium N-type TOPCon panels and hybrid (battery-ready) inverters cost more upfront but offer better efficiency and future flexibility.

Larger systems are cheaper per kWp because fixed costs (scaffolding, application, labour mobilisation) spread across more capacity.
How fast does it pay back?

Payback is faster if your bill is high (you're offsetting expensive top-tier units), and slower if your bill is low or your daytime usage is minimal.
Financing: you don't always need cash upfront
Several routes let you go solar without a large lump sum:
- Green financing loans β subsidised-rate loans from major banks, often with monthly repayments lower than your current bill savings.
- 0% instalment plans β some installers offer credit-card or in-house instalments.
- Rent-to-own / PPA β RM0 upfront; you pay a fixed monthly fee and own the system after 5β10 years. Lower risk, but you pay more overall.
