How the solar suitability check works

This tool uses real climate data from NASA's POWER Project — the same satellite-derived data used by researchers and energy planners worldwide. When you drop a pin, we pull a 30-year climatology average for that exact latitude and longitude.

How we score suitability

The suitability score blends sun hours (weighted most heavily), cloud cover, and rainfall into a single 0–100 figure. As a rough guide: above 75 is excellent, 60–75 is good, 45–60 is fair, and below 45 means solar is possible but less rewarding. Even "fair" locations often make solar worthwhile once you factor in local electricity prices — which is what our full calculator works out.

This is a starting point, not a final answer

Climate is only one factor. Your actual solar output also depends on your roof direction, shading from trees or buildings, panel quality, and your local electricity tariff and export rates.
